Its been snowing a bit in Blighty - got to stay home from work on Monday and had a devil of a job getting home today - the railway company decided to try and get the entire contents of Kings Cross Station into a single train. I think they pretty much managed it too (for those Harry Potter fans amongst you, yes it is the same Kings Cross Station and yes I do walk past platform 9 3/4 every day - it seems to be a magnet for Japanese tourists for some reason!).
Generally though it seems a slow news week so far. The local Russian-owned newspaper evening newspaper is on "Day 3 of the snow" as if its some sort of disaster movie and as if nobody has ever seen snow before. I thought this whole "Day 1: Its snowed" thing would peter out pretty quickly though. Day 2 was reported as "People struggle to work". Well actually it wasn't too much of a struggle for a lot of us, we had a worse time the previous day, so not really a news item there. Day 3 and they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for news content "Rubbish piles up" since the councils have basically said they won't collect this week. Yes, very newsworthy stuff. I can imagine the next ones "Day 4: boy catches cold" "Day 5: Its still a little nippy out there" "Day 6: National welly shortage" "Day 7: Editor of newspaper gets sacked for writing rubbish". I see being under Russian ownership has done nothing for the quality.
